19072: With the celebrated Lower Merion School District, rail access to Philadelphia and a downtown humming with shops, restaurants and entertainment, Narberth is a hot destination for young families. You can get a foot in the door with a two-bedroom condo in the $200,000 range. Expect to pay more than $1 million for an artfully updated Victorian house.

19003: It’s hip to be square in Ardmore— specifically, a home near Suburban Square, the retail epicenter of the community. Residents can stroll to restaurants, shops and a farmers market or hop the train to Philadelphia. Housing options include condominiums, townhouses and single-family homes, with prices from the $200,000s to $1 million plus.

19083: Largely built in the first half of the 20th century, Penfield in Haverford Township offers abundant architectural charm, as well as a SEPTA station. Recent prices range from $470,000 (for a five-bedroom, three-bath Dutch colonial in need of updates) to $805,000 (for a newly renovated five-bedroom, five-bath stone Tudor-style home).

19087: Established in the 19th century as a rail commuter town, Wayne is an easy train ride to Philly, yet a world away. The heart of this walkable community offers retail, dining, a theater, a boutique hotel and a new downtown library. In addition to South Wayne’s vintage Victorians with inviting porches, the local market includes Wayne 427, a new pedestrian-friendly luxury condo complex with high-end finishes and million-dollar price tags.
