Scott, a local resident and founder of Platoon Fitness, has dreamed of restoring the 97-year-old theater. When the venue shut down during the pandemic, it created the chance he had been waiting for. Years of neglect had taken their toll, but Scott saw potential. He formed AWTO, a nonprofit dedicated to revitalizing the theater and the community around it.
After some early hurdles, including convincing building owner Stephen Bajas to support the idea, the project gained traction. Today, a committed board is in place, and interior demolition is already in progress.

This isn’t just about showing movies. The AWTO plans to create a boutique cinema experience. Visitors can expect carefully chosen films, real-butter popcorn, upscale snacks, and a speakeasy lounge hidden below. The classic exterior will stay, but inside, guests will find modern comfort blended with historic character.

Wayne residents are eager to see the doors reopen. Many stop by to ask about updates or share their stories. Business owners are also hopeful. Ken Kearns, president of the Wayne Business Association, believes the Anthony Wayne Theater reopening will boost foot traffic and benefit nearby restaurants and shops.
